A learnership programme will contribute maximum points towards the Skills Development element of the BEE Scorecard

Challenge: BEE training to achieve maximum possible points on BBBEE Scorecard

My client, which operates in the Wholesale and Retail industry in the CBD of Johannesburg, approached me with their need to achieve the maximum possible points on the BBBEE Scorecard’s skills development element. As part of its compliance to the government’s skills development targets they wanted to include BEE training for unemployed disabled people and take advantage of the bonus points that can be obtained.

Solution: Disability-focused learnerships can boost your BEE Scorecard

A disability-focused learnership can boost your BEE Scorecard by more than 12 points and therefore I recommended that my client enrol the group of five unemployed individuals with disabilities on Triple E Training’s Business Practice qualification (NQF 1). The programme falls under Category C of the learning matrix.

It took the group of five learners four months to complete the accredited outsourced BEE staff training. An experienced Triple E Training facilitator conducted the training sessions at my client’s in-house training facilities on a full-time basis in one 8-hour session per day.

Expert opinion: Learnership programmes contribute maximum points to BEE Scorecard

Business Practice is a full qualification that includes modules such as Life Sciences, Ethics and Life Orientation, Instruction and Planning, Technology, Economic and Management Sciences as well as Entrepreneurship. The entry requirements for the NQF 1 Business Practice qualification is our ABET modules Communication in English as well as Mathematics (Numeracy) on ABET Level 3.

A learnership programme will not only contribute maximum points towards the Skills Development element of the BEE Scorecard but through enrolling individuals with disabilities you also give them an opportunity to improve their lives.

Furthermore outsourced BEE training and learnerships for disabled individuals by an accredited service provider will also mean that your organisation will benefit from the fact that the government will share the cost of the training through tax incentives and rebates. The benefits of learnerships for disabled individuals are:

  • Cash grants;
  • Contribution towards your BEE Scorecard;
  • Provision of skilled and experienced workers;
  • Improved productivity and quality; and
  • Identification of skills gap and training opportunities.

Summary
