ABET to develop a small group of low skilled employees

Challenge: BEE training requirements are on a much smaller scale than that of large corporates

My client operates in the hospitality industry had a very specific need when I first met with them: Adult Basic Education and Training (ABET/AET) in order to score points on the BBBEE Skills Development element of the BEE Scorecard.

As a relatively small organisation in comparison to large corporates that employ thousands of people my client’s BEE training requirements are on a much smaller scale than that of large corporates. When I first spoke them they informed me that they have approached various other ABET service providers who were just not prepared to train their small group of five employees on-site at their hotel and conference centre in Boksburg close to the OR Tambo International Airport.

Solution: ABET Level 1 – Communication in English

At Triple E Training every client and each employee is important and therefore I suggested our SETA accredited ABET module Communication in English.

After an initial assessment of the five employees it was decided to commence them on ABET level 1 for the module Communication in English. This NQF 1 training will be taking place over 120 hours (five months) at six hours a week, usually split up in two three-hour sessions per week. It should take the group of employees five months to complete their training after which they will each hold a General Education and Training Certificate (GETC).

As a conference venue the client has suitable on-site training facilities. The facilitator, which will be chosen from a group of more than 400 facilitators, will be matched to the group of learners to ensure the best possible outcome for my client’s staff training project.

Expert Opinion: ABET provide learners with nationally recognised skills and/or qualifications

Service Education and Training Authorities (SETAs) were established in 2000 in terms of the Skills Development Act in order to ensure the improvements of levels of literacy and numeracy (mathematics) amongst workers in South Africa.

ABET has been put in place to offer training to adults who want to improve or complete their education and aims to provide basic foundational learning tools, knowledge and skills to ultimately provide learners with nationally recognised skills and/or qualifications.

For organisations to improve their overall BEE rating on the BEE scorecard it is important to conduct ABET amongst employees. At Triple E Training we offer SETA accredited outsourced BEE training across South Africa no matter what your budget.

Because my client had a much smaller training requirement, the majority of other BEE training service providers did not find a small project of five learners worth the effort. At Triple E Training however we believe that every adult should have the very basic skills in literacy and numeracy (mathematics) in order to be able to find and/or retain employment.

Through ABET my client did not only empower its employees by giving them foundational knowledge of Communication in English but also managed to score points towards the Skills Development element of the BEE scorecard whilst improving staff morale and overall commitment.

Call to Action: Triple E Training – Your partner in outsourced BEE Training no matter how small the group

With Triple E Training as its partner my client managed not only develop a small group of low skilled employees but also scored points on the BBBEE Scorecard to improve its overall BBBEE rating.

Summary:

For as little as R50k my client, in the hospitality industry, found in Triple E Training an outsourced BEE training service provider that were willing to offer ABET Level 1 Communication in English to a small group of five employees on-site at their facilities in Boksburg. This NQF 1 training project will help my client score points towards its BBBEE rating on the scorecard whilst offering employees an opportunity to achieve a SAQA-recognised qualification.
