We also offer a variety of short courses in Basic Conversational Skills, which forms part of our selection of professional ABET courses. These include the languages of Zulu, Xhosa, Tswana and English and Afrikaans. Initially an oral pre-assessment is performed on each candidate so as to gauge the candidate’s progress and to assist with the candidate’s correct placement. This will also help with the customization of the program.
The Basic Conversation skills course consists of three study units, namely:
- Greetings – candidates learn to enquire about health, family names, ask directions home and about South Africa’s geography
- They will also learn about shopping for groceries and clothes in South Africa, money and transport
- An area which receives a lot of attention is the workplace. This study unit can be customized to suit the company’s preferences and procedures.
The Basic Conversational Skills course takes approximately 32 hours to complete, followed by a post assessment which will judge the candidate’s proficiency in the language. Upon demonstrating the necessary competency candidates can also acquire an ABET Level 1 Communication qualification, the duration of this course being 100 hours.
