Most of us take learning math at the most basic level for granted in grade one. Yet many South Africans are unable to read numbers let alone add, subtract multiply and divide. This is mainly due to the legacy of Apartheid where the majority did not receive any education whatsoever. The Adult Education and Training programme rolled out by government is aimed at correcting this problem by offering basic courses to the illiterate and under educated population in South Africa. The programme is mainly being rolled out through businesses but any person can have access to the education and training programme through community or other learning centres in their area.
