The cost of numerical illiteracy

Economic growth and thus also social upliftment in South Africa are severely hampered by the high level of numerical illiteracy in the country. As millions of persons never had a formal education in the country, it is understandable that numerical illiteracy would prevail. It doesn’t have to be that way. Once numerical illiteracy is addressed, more people will be able to advance in their jobs. In addition fewer costs will be associated with mistakes made because of numerical illiteracy. With more than 13 million South Africans in the country that don’t have an education higher than Grade 8, it also means that a high level of numerical illiteracy is present. This keeps workers in labour positions where no numerical skills are required and severely affects their income level and thus contribution to the economy. Triple e is proud to be part of the initiative to eradicate numerical illiteracy in the country as this will ensure a better future for all in South Africa.
