Successes in the field of education have been few and far between in the last decade in South Africa, however one of the bright lights has been the cooperation between government and business in the field of adult basic education and training. Big business and government are achieving success after success in rolling out ABET programmes, which are starting to have a real effect in reducing illiteracy rates in South Africa. There has also been a real growth in the amount of accredited ABET service providers, which bodes well for the future of ABET at the Southern tip of Africa.
