The injustices of the past mean that South Africa has a high rate of illiteracy, in fact census information has indicated that there are between four and five million South African’s who are functionally illiterate. Fortunately efforts by both the South African government and the private sector are helping correct this situation. ABET providers across the country are supplying business with courseware and expertise to help train those staff members who might have a problem with literacy. These ABET providers are also able to offer courses which allow employees to ascend through a variety of grades until that reach ABET levels which correspond to a Grade 12 education.
