Expert placement assessments

Each learner must receive an assessment before he or she can take part in the Adult Basic Education and Training programme. The assessment judges the level of skills that the learner has already achieved and where they will begin learning within the programme. These placements assessments can take place at either their place of work or at a learning centre in their area. Most learners enrolling on the Abet programme are totally illiterate and have limited communication skills and will begin the course at level 1. Learners who have some reading and writing ability may skip levels and be placed between level 2 and 4 depending on their current understanding and knowledge. Few people who enrol will have the skills necessary to be placed at level 4 and it is up to the facilitator to decide at which level the learner will best benefit from the education and training.
