The agricultural sector in South Africa is one of the main focuses of the Adult Basic Education and Training initiative. The requirement for skills in the sector is low and most workers are blue collar labourers who have never received any formal education and therefore lack basic skills. These skills include reading and writing as well as basic numeracy. The Primary Agriculture SETA (Agriseta) in conjunction with the Department of Agriculture and employers in this sector understands the need for providing Adult Basic Education and Training to these employees. Further education can be sought by a learner once they have received basic skills so that they have the opportunity to enhance their quality of life.
