In South Africa’s rural villages the rate of literacy is far lower than that of the towns and cities. In the more built up areas of the country a basic ability to read and write is often the difference between a borderline existence and making ends meet. However things are changing even out in the more remote of South Africa’s regions. Adult Basic Education and Training is making a difference to the lives of even the poorest of the poor. Educators across the country are reaching out to even the most disadvantaged in an effort to make sure that every citizen of South Africa is afforded an equal chance to reach their full potential and drive this country into the 21st century.
