It was the brainchild of the Department of Education as an initiative to oversee basic adult education to the more than three million illiterate people in the country. Learners that want to enroll in the ABET Level 1 Adult Basic Education program must first complete the SANLI program. The curriculum of the adult basic education program has as aim the provision of education to learn additional languages, build numerical skills, and learn to read and write.
