Who needs Adult Basic Education and Training? There are approximately 12 million South Africans who have not completed their formal education. As such there are a minimum of 12 million adults in this country that need Adult Basic Education and Training. Just over 23% of African adults over the age of 20 lack any literacy. That is a huge percentage of the labor market. About 10% of the Colored community in the same age bracket has no schooling at all while just under 8% of the Indian community falls in the same category. More women than men are illiterate or have not completed their formal education. As such the communities who had the least access to or opportunities to complete formal education will benefit the most from Adult Basic Education and Training programs as provided by Triple E.
