SETA stands for Sector Education and Training Authorities. Each sector has its own SETA. The role of a SETA is as follows:
• To identify the skills required by a specific sector
• To oversee the development of appropriate skills
• To create a favorable balance between the demand for specific skills and the supply available
The SETA must also see to it that training is done according to specific standards and that quality assurance is applied. The SETA must ensure that the skills acquired are at a level that can be recognized nationally. They also have as focus ensuring that new entrants into the job market have received the required training. In addition the SETA must also see to it that skills are developed and acknowledged within formal employment.
