How to sponsor a learnership training programme

A sponsored learnership is free community training for unemployed adults that is sponsored by a company. This form of training is an outsourced skills development programme that takes place off-site, and is entirely facilitated by the team at Triple E Training. It serves as a fully packaged toolkit for companies to score points on the Skills Development element of the BBBEE scorecard.

The benefit of a sponsored learnership is that a business will be able to comply with the BBBEE compliance factors under skills development without having to train its own employees. Any company can place an order for a sponsored learnership programme, or sponsor a relevant unemployed community member by buying a learner from us that has already been trained.

To qualify for points towards the skills development element of the BBBEE scorecard businesses must train within the economically active population (EAP) targets set for the province they operate in. As part of a sponsored learnership programme our team will recruit unemployed community members within the company’s EAP target according to specific demographics and race.

Classified as category D training on the learning programme matrix (LPM) a sponsored learnership is an occupationally directed instructional and work based learning program that requires a formal contract, and that is formally assessed by an accredited body. It is delivered by means of institutional instruction together with structured, supervised experiential learning in the workplace. This combination of theoretical knowledge and workplace learning results in the achievement of a SAQA registered qualification, or a certificate of other similar occupational or professional qualification issued by an accredited or registered formal institution of learning.

The subjects we offer at Triple E Training as part of a sponsored learnership are:

NQF 1 Learnership Qualifications
NQF 2-4 Communications in English
NQF 2-4 Numeracy / Mathematics
ABET/AET Communication Level 1B-4
ABET/AET Mathematics Level 1-4

Because a sponsored learnership is a full qualification it helps a business with its BBBEE scorecard, and to earn points based on the required criteria. Upon completion of the sponsored learnership the company will receive all the necessary documents that can be submitted to their BEE Verification Agency. These documents can also be used to claim the skills development grant from the relevant SETA. The documentation in the sponsored learnership pack includes:

A formal learnership agreement
Certified copies of learner IDs
Daily signed attendance registers
A learner demographic report
An enrolment report
A motivation report
A verified auditor’s report
Photos of the class

By sponsoring a learnership a company limits its day-to-day responsibilities of in-house learnerships while reaping the benefits of a skills development programme.
