What Are the Requirements for GETC Training?” The GETC is designed for adult learners who are ready to move beyond foundational education and work toward a recognised NQF Level 1 qualification. Before starting, learners generally need competency in ABET Level 3 English and Mathematics so they can manage the six learning areas and external assessments successfully.

The General Education and Training Certificate, commonly known as the GETC, is a nationally recognised qualification at NQF Level 1. It is often described as the adult equivalent of Grade 9 and gives learners a formal foundation for further education, occupational training, and Adult Matric.
GETC training is more advanced than the earlier ABET levels. Learners are expected to complete several learning areas and demonstrate their competence through formal assessments and external examinations.
What learners generally need before starting GETC training:
ABET Level 3 English competency:
Learners need sufficient reading, writing, comprehension, and communication skills to understand course material, complete workbooks, and respond to assessment questions.
ABET Level 3 Mathematics competency:

Where a learner is not yet ready for GETC, an assessment can identify the specific gaps that need to be addressed first. They may begin with an earlier ABET level in English, Mathematics, or both before progressing into the full qualification.
