Adult Matric offers a recognised pathway for adults who want to complete their secondary education, improve their qualifications, or add subjects that may support new employment and study opportunities.
Who May Qualify for Adult Matric?
Your eligibility will depend on the schooling or qualifications you have already completed. You may qualify if you have one of the following starting points:
A Completed GETC Qualification
Learners who have completed a General Education and Training Certificate at NQF Level 1 may have the recognised foundation needed to move toward Adult Matric.
Grade 9, 10, or 11 Schooling Your previous school record may still count, whether you passed or failed the grade. This means leaving school before Grade 12 does not automatically close the door.
An Incomplete or Failed Grade 12
Adults who previously attempted Grade 12 may be able to continue from where they stopped and work toward completing the outstanding requirements.
An Existing Matric Certificate
People who already have Matric may still register for selected subjects to improve their results or add an important subject such as Mathematics.

Adult Matric requires learners to have a sufficient foundation in English and Mathematics. These skills are important because learners need to understand course material, complete assessments, and manage the academic demands of the programme.
Where a learner does not yet meet the required level, an assessment can identify the foundational support they need before progressing.
