Skills investment into disabled people

According to the World Report on Disability (2011), disabled persons have a far less chance of being employed, with similar trends observed in job advancement and security. One of the main issues highlighted causing this trend both locally and internationally is a severe lack of skills investment into disabled people when they are young. Thus, many of them are unemployable, even if their disability is only physical.

The Bill of Rights in the South African Constitution outlaws discrimination on any ground, including disability. To address barriers to employment the National Skills Development Strategy requires the SETAs to open training opportunities through learnerships for persons with disabilities.

Training unemployed, disabled individuals from the community

At Triple E Training we support the NSDS requirement for training disabled individuals, which is why we recommend it to our clients. By training unemployed, disabled individuals from the community our clients not only earn points towards the BEE scorecard, but they also contribute to the upliftment of persons with disabilities.

Disability-focussed learnership can boost your BEE scorecard

A disability-focused learnership can boost your BEE Scorecard by more than 12 points. Our Business Practice qualification (NQF 1), which falls under Category C of the learning programme matrix, is therefore the ideal solution for companies who would like to contribute to the state of unemployment for persons with disabilities.

Business Practice is a full qualification that includes modules such as Life Sciences, Ethics and Life Orientation, Instruction and Planning, Technology, Economic and Management Sciences, and Entrepreneurship. The entry requirements for the NQF 1 Business Practice qualification is our ABET modules Communication in English as well as Mathematics (Numeracy) on ABET Level 3.

Government will share the cost of the training

Outsourced BEE training and learnerships for persons with disabilityes by an accredited service provider also means that your company can benefit from the fact that the government will share the cost of the training through tax incentives and rebates. The benefits of learnerships for persons with disabilities are:

  • Cash grants;
  • Contribution towards your BEE Scorecard;
  • Provision of skilled and experienced workers;
  • Improved productivity and quality; and
  • Identification of skills gap and training opportunities.
