What is quantitative literacy?

Quantitative literacy refers to literacy about problem solving of mathematical equations. This means that a person will be able to address mathematical problem situations experienced in day to day living or the work environment. Quantitative literacy training will thus empower the learner to respond to information presented in either graphical, tabular, written text or oral form about mathematical and statistical ideas requiring the activation of a range of processes. The learner will thus be able to react to situations in the work environment whether in the social sciences or an exact sciences field by apprehending the situation, taking information in, processing it and communicating it effectively. Quantitative literacy thus also involves shapes, dimensions, graphs, measurements, data representation, change, rates, and analysis. Any of these can be represented as numbers, words, graphs, shapes, tables or formulae.
