Part of the plan for educating adult illiterate South Africans is to provide them with life skills training. Life skills enable a person to function optimally in society and have access to benefits form integral institutions that can improve a persons’ lifestyle. This includes teaching people about things like banking and medical aid as well as insurance training. Understanding the terms as well as how these institutions operate will allow these citizens to access these institutions and receive the benefits associated with them. Adult Basic Education and Training programmes provide these life skills training as well as basic education. The programme also addresses health and safety issues for and individuals and aims to provide a better style of living to illiterate and uneducated South Africans.
