An adult who lacks basic skills like reading and mathematics will never be able to reach their full potential. However for many years the South African government systematically prevented the vast majority of its population from receiving even the most basic of educations. They were prevented from attending school due to forced relocation and their supposed status as nothing more than menial labourers. Thanks to South Africa’s status today as a democratic country this is thankfully no longer the case. Both business and government are committed to Adult Basic Education and Training initiatives that are slowly but surely righting the wrongs of the past.
