Challenge: A family business struggling to improve its BEE rating
My client operates a family business in the wholesale industry and is struggling to improve its BEE rating. With three branches in Gauteng, this small business will be able to utilise outsourced BEE training to gain the maximum possible points under the skills development element of the BEE Scorecard.
Solution: ABET should be the preferred method to address skills development in the workplace
Adult Based Education and Training (ABET/AET) is one of the various skills development programmes developed to address literacy and numeracy in the country and therefore it should be the preferred method to address skills development in the workplace.
For my client, to increase its BEE rating, I suggested Triple E Training’s Communication in English ABET learning area for a total of six employees. The employees will start with ABET Level 1 and over a period of five years complete up to ABET Level 4. Each level requires 120 hours’ training by an experienced facilitator. The training will take place at my client’s premises which makes it very convenient as it does not interrupt operations with unnecessary travel time to and from off-site training facilities.

Not only does ABET, that falls under Category B training in the skills matrix, increase a companies over BEE rating and contribute to the Workplace Skills Plan (WSP) as well as the Annual Training Report (ATR), but ABET projects can also be claimed against SETA grants.
