Most Adult Basic Education and Training efforts are focused on providing employees for basic English literacy and numeracy skills in order to make up for the deficits in these areas which are a legacy of the Apartheid educational system. Without these skills workers cannot be expected to perform optimally and provide the business with the best return on the investment in their training. Therefore ABET programs provide the foundation on which further learning can be based. ABET also equips the worker with the skills required for day to day living, such as opening a bank account or managing their finances. ABET provides skills for a happy and motivated workforce.
