Adult Basic Education and Training is essential to remedy the legacy of the Apartheid educational system When correctly applied it enables learners to grasp the fundamental of both literacy and numeracy. If the learner progresses from ABT level 1 to ABET level 4 they should have the skills of a grade 12 learner and be able to contribute significantly more to a business than would otherwise be the case. For this reason business is becoming more and more involved in providing employees with opportunities to take part in ABET programs. However government and business are also concerned with improving the learners quality of life and allowing them to contribute meaningfully to the growth of South Africa.
