Training Interventions that Can Make a Difference
Community development is a way of strengthening society by prioritising the challenges of communities, and their perspectives in the development of social, economic and environmental policy. It aims for the empowerment of local communities. What is community development
Community development should aim to strengthen the capacity of people as active citizens through their community groups and the capacity of institutions/agencies to work with citizens to shape and determine change in their communities.
Great community development is intervention that helps people to recognise and develop their ability and organise themselves to respond to problems and needs which they share. It supports the establishment of strong communities that control and use assets to promote social justice and help improve the quality of community life. The scope of community development can vary from small initiatives within a small group, to large initiatives that involve the whole community. Planning for success
Triple E Training Holdings (Pty) Ltd has a number of Community-based programmes in South Africa. These offer training programmes for various communities. All citizens who become learners on these programmes have the opportunity to upgrade their Business English, Business Mathematics and Computer Literacy. The programmes are tailor-made for each community because each community, like every person, is different. What they all have in common is that they are:
- long-term programmes
- well planned well ahead of time
- discussed and supported by the community as a whole
- integrated into the bigger picture of the larger community
- of benefit to the community through upgrading of communication, problem solving and computer literacy
- in partnership with local industry and communities
- quality-assured continuously during the programme
- preparing the learners for employment and/or further training and development
- grounded in experience that leads to best practices.
The benefits are far-reaching and portable. Many of Triple E Training Holdings (Pty) Ltd’s Community-based learners have entered Further Education and Training programmes as a result of this upliftment. Many have been employed.
