Government and business are showing a renewed commitment to the concept of Adult Basic Education and Training as literacy levels continue to rise in South Africa. In order to achieve a 100% literacy and basic numeracy rate the number of accredited ABET providers needs to increase dramatically and the funding from business needs to increase to an even higher level. With this renewed commitment South Africa can be assured that it reaches the social and economic goals as set out by government in its millennium goals statement. As well as achieving the economic goals ABET will have the effect of providing more of South Africa’s citizens with the opportunities they need for self improvement.
